In many ways the eye functions rather like a camera and accommodation refers to the ability to see well close up as well as in the distance.
Loss of accommodation is also called presbyopia. This is a bit like losing the ' zoom' function on a camera.
People over the age of 45 ( and sometimes
earlier) who may previously have had
good vision, find they need
spectacles to read small print. This is
the onset of presbyopia or loss of
accommodation
