Eyelid Skin Cancer

Cancer can occur within the eye as well in the tissues surrounding the eye. There are several forms of cancer fom painless nodules to crusty areas, areas that are raised or even bleeding.

The most common cause of skin cancer is over exposure to sunlight and is more prevalent in fair skinned people.

Types of eyelid skin cancer:

Basal cell carcinoma (this type tend not to spread to distant parts of the body) Squamous cell carcinoma (this type tend not to spread to distant parts of the body) Sebaceous gland carcinoma (This is a more serious type of skin cancer because it may spread to other parts of the body) Malignant melanoma (This is a more serious type of skin cancer because it may spread to other parts of the body)

Complete removal of the tumour is necessary to minimise the possibility that it may recur. Reconstructive surgery may also be necessary.
