Hyperopia ( also known as hypermetropia) means long sighted.

People who are long sighted can see distance objects but cannot see well close up. Hyperopic or long sighted people might need spectacles for reading or may need specs for driving and computer work too.

An eye that sees well without spectacles is the right length and therefore fall onto the retina where the image is processed by the brain to form a clear picture.

In a long sighted person, the eye is usually too short and the image focusses behind the retina, rather than on the retina, causing a blurred image.

A PLUS lens is needed to correct the problem. If you have a +2.00D spectacle prescription for example, then you are short sighted.
