LASIK (Laser Assisted In Situ Keratomileusis) is one of the most

amazing technological breakthroughs in eye care in past decades.

Using a cold, high-precision laser beam, the excimer laser is precisely programmed to remove a microscopic layer of the cornea, altering its curvature, to correct your spectacle or contact lens prescription.

To put this into perspective, each laser pulse removes 0.25 microns of corneal tissue or 1/400 of a mm. Because of the laser's precision, damage to healthy, adjoining tissue is reduced or eliminated. Among its advantages are that visual recovery is rapid and it is virtually painless.

Conventional LASIK corrects lower order abberations or errors ( short & long sightedness and astigmatism) but can cause unwanted side effects such as reduced contrast sensitivity, increased higher order aberrations and reduce visual performance at night-time.

At 6/6 vision Mr Aggarwal performs Custom-Vue™ WaveScan® LASIK which not only induces fewer higher order aberrations but can also correct disorders that previously could not even be detected.

A thorough and accurate assessment is necessary to acheive the best possible outcome. Once this has been established, you will be given facts relating to the procedure including risks associated with it. Only when you have had time to consider the facts, the risks and your expected outcome will surgery take place, should you wish to proceed.

After anaesthetising the eye with drops, a thin corneal ''flap'' is created using an instrument called a microkeratome. This flap is carefully folded back.

The corneal ''flap'' is then replaced to its original position where it seals itself without the use of stitches. The flap protects the treated area of your cornea and helps reduce discomfort.

The excimer laser is used to reshape the cornea. The exact amount has been pre-programmed into the laser to correct your individual prescription.
