Presbyopia

Presbyopia is also called ' loss of accommodation'

and simply refers to the natural

aging process of the eye.

Presbyopia happens to almost

everyone. Symptoms often appear in

a persons 40's or even earlier.

Shortsighted people find they have to

take their glasses off to read whilst

long sighted people find it difficult to

focus at any distance. Those who have

never had to wear spectacles, find they

cannot see to read unless they hold the page

at arms length.

In many ways the eye functions rather like a camera and presbyopia is a bit like losing the ' zoom' function on a camera.

People who have always needed spectacles may find they need multiple pairs whilst those who have never worn spectacles can't read without them. Switching focus from near to far, is difficult or even impossible making a game of golf difficult to enjoy.

Multifocal or bifocal spectacles or contact lenses can help some people although many find them difficult to tolerate.

PreLex is a permanent solution to this problem, which also prevents the onset of cataracts.
