Keratoconus

The cornea is normally slightly curved and light is refracted onto the retina forming clear images.

A relatively rare condition called keratoconus results in the cornea becoming thin and misshapen. Over time the cornea becomes cone like in appearance resulting in distorted vision.

Treatments are available ranging from special spectacles or contact lenses for those with mild keratoconus to corneal transplant in severe cases.
